My Haircare Routine

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with my hair. Ever since I could remember, trying to tame my hair was like trying to tame a beast - its unpredictable and wild. Not only is my hair incredibly thick, but in it’s natural state it’s frizzy, afro-like, and a weird combination of curly/wavy. My mom used to tell me that my hair looked like a bomb blew up next to me. That’s how bad it was, I swear.

It’s a blessing and a curse to have my kind of hair, as it’s incredibly strong and withholds anything you do to it - heat it, bleach it, dye it, curl it - I hardly get any breakage or thinning. On the flip side, I literally have to schedule my hair-washing nights because it will take me hours to dry and style it the way I like it. And forget about drying my hair naturally - it’ll end up looking like a mix of a poodle and the end of a straw broom.

The grass is always greener I guess.

So, I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to find a haircare routine that I actually like. Sometimes I’ll find a shampoo and conditioner that I love, only to realize that, after 3 months, it ends up not working for my hair any longer. I’m sure some of you have this same problem (I have the same problem with my skincare). It’s almost like your hair has gotten used to the products and just isn’t as effective as it once was. At this point however, I’ve found a routine that I’ve been loving for some time now and I think it’s totally worth showing you how I care for my locks :)

My latest haircare routine consists mainly of my beloved shampoo and conditioner from Kerastase. I never thought it was really worth it to splurge on a shampoo and conditioner the way I splurge on skincare. But once I tried Kerastase out, I realized it was something in my life I was missing. It was as though I finally found my way through the same dark sea of hair products.

My Kerastase Discipline Bain Fluidealiste Shampoo and Maskeratine Hair Mask are so incredible and smells amazing! While they are a bit on the expensive side, they’re really worth it if you have temperamental, high-maintenance hair. They really help make my hair feel super silky and smooth, unlike most sulfate-free shampoos, and are one of the reasons why my hair flows so freely without frizz.

Another is because I recently got a keratin treatment done on my hair for the first time ever, and honestly I don’t know what I was waiting for. It’s really obnoxious to say, but it has changed my life for the better. Instead of blow drying for 1 hour, it takes me 20 minutes (from dripping wet hair) to blow dry and style. Serious game changer. Also, if I’m feeling extra lazy, I could just leave it dry naturally and voila - I have beautiful beachy waves with 90% less frizz.

If you’re looking to take the plunge, I HIGHLY recommend you do it. It’s one of the best investments I’ve ever made for myself. If you’re in the NYC area, check out Hair Bar NYC - they have super affordable keratin treatments that are just as effective as any other high-end salon. It’s a no-frills salon for the girl that just wants good quality product :)

When styling my hair, I use the Verb Ghost Oil on wet hair before using my Dyson hairdryer with the diffuser attachment. Afterward, I lightly spray my entire head of hair with the Verb Ghost Hairspray before using my Sedu flatiron to add more curl my hair.

In between washings, I like to use the drybar Detox Dry Shampoo and Dry Conditioner. They’re incredible and they smell INSANELY good. My nostrils love these products.

And there you have it - my simple haircare routine! It’s really all about those good quality products that will make the condition of your hair and your hairstyle go a long way.

Hope you enjoyed and I’ll see you all soon!
